रोटरियन सुनितासिंह भारतीय सरकारको ‘बेटी बचाओ’ बेटी पढाओ’ अभियानका दूत हुन् । उनीले भारत र नेपालको संस्कृति, परम्परादेखि लिएर ९० प्रतिशत नै मेल खाएको कुरा बताउनुभयो । भारतीय र नेपालीहरुको आर्थिक अवस्था देखि सोचाइसम्म मिल्ने गरेको कुरा पनि आफुले अनुभव गरेको बताउनुभयो । भारतमा छोरी, चेलीलाई जसरी शिक्षामा भेदभाव गरेको छ । यो अवस्था नेपालमा पनि रहेको जिकिर गर्दै छोरीलाई स्कुल पठाऔं भन्ने सन्देशका साथ उनील भारतको गुजरातस्थित सोमनाथ मन्दिरदेखि काठमाडौंसम्मको यात्रा टुंग्याएकी छिन् । उनी अर्थात् सुनितासिंह जो सगरमाथा आरोही पनि हुन् ।
नेपालसम्म साइकल यात्रामा आउनुको मूल उद्देश्य ‘आधारभूत शिक्षा तथा साक्षरता र वातावरण सम्बर्द्धन’ रहेको उहाँले सुनाउनुभयो । वातावरण सम्बर्द्धनका लागि उहाँले अहिलेसम्म यात्राका क्रममा भारत र नेपालका विद्यालयहरुमा ७ हजार वृक्षरोपण गरिसक्नुभएको छ ।
रोटरी इन्टरनेशनलसँग पनि आबद्धता रहेकी सुनिताले मुख्य त नेपालमा अभिभावकलाई छोरीको शिक्षामा जोड दिन आह्वान गरिन् । ‘छोरा–छोरी दुबैलाई शिक्षा दिऊँ र अभिभावकले उनीहरुलाई स्वतन्त्रता पनि दिऊँ ।’ रोटरियन भएको र मानव कल्याणकारी अभियानमा रहेको कारणले नेपालस्थित रोटरी इन्टरनेशनल ३२९२ ले सुनितालाई विभिन्न स्थानमा स्वागत गर्दै यात्रामा हौसाला दिएको थियो ।
नेपालका काँकडभित्ता, भद्रपुर, विर्तामोड, सुरुङ्गा, दमक, उर्लाबारी, इटहरी, विराटनगर, धरान, बर्दिबास, वीरगञ्ज, हेटौंडा, मकवानपुर र टिस्टुङ हुँदै काठमाडौं आएकी सुनिताले छात्रा शिक्षाका लागि प्रवचन तथा वृक्षरोपणमै समय खर्चिन् ।
रोटरीका पूर्व गभर्नर तथा नेपाल सरकारका पूर्व मुख्यसचिव तीर्थमान शाक्यले काठमाडौंमा सन् २०१२ मा रोटरी इन्टरनेशनलको दक्षिण एसियाली क्षेत्रीय सम्मेलन भएको र त्यसले ‘नेपाल लिटेरेसी मिसन’ घोषणा गरेको स्मरण गराउनुभयो । ‘त्यही मिसन अनुसार हामीले ह्याप्पी स्कूल अभियान गरिरहेका छौं । शिक्षक तालिम, ई–लर्निङ, प्रौढ साक्षरता, बालविकास जस्ता परियोजना अहिले रोटरीले सञ्चालन गरिरहेको छ ।’
उहाँले सुनिता जस्ता अभियन्ताले नेपालको साक्षरता र खासगरी छात्र शिक्षालाई बल पुगेको बताउनुभयो । हरियाणाकी सुनिता विशेषगरी सो क्षेत्रमा छोरीका लागि शिक्षा अझै पनि चुनौतीपूर्ण रहेको बताउनुहुुन्छ । आफू जीवनभर यस्तै अभियानमा सक्रिय रहने पनि उहाँले प्रतिबद्धता जनाउनुभयो ।
नेपालसम्मको यात्रामा उहाँले अपनत्वको महशूस भएको अनुभव सुनाउनुभयो । र, भन्नुभयो, ‘नेपाल र भारतको जनजीवन र संस्कृति साँच्चै उस्तै लाग्यो । यहाँ मलाई मेरो यात्राकोहरेक पाइलामा नेपालीले अगाध माया दर्शाउनुभयो ।’
